A prosecution witness in the trial of ex-cop Amber Guyger for the killing of Botham Jean was shot dead in Dallas Friday evening, CBS DFW reported.
Joshua Brown, 28, lived across the hall from Jean and testified about the night Guyger entered Jean’s apartment instead of hers and shot him dead.
Brown testified that he had met Jean for the first time the day he was killed, although he heard him singing gospel music frequently. About the shooting, Brown said he heard two people speaking as if they’d met by surprise, but he couldn’t make out any words. Asked if he heard any commands from Guyger, he said he had not.
Guyger was off-duty but in uniform at the time of the shooting. She said she had finished a long shift and parked on the wrong floor of the parking deck, then entered Jean’s apartment, which was directly above hers, by mistake. She was found guilty of murder last week and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Witnesses told police Friday night that they heard gunshots and saw a silver sedan speeding out of the parking lot at an apartment complex near Dallas’ Medical District. Brown was taken to a hospital and died there of his injuries.
