A 16-year-old Indiana boy admitted in court on Wednesday to killing his pregnant girlfriend and his unborn child nearly a year after her murdered body was found in a dumpster.
According to WSBT, Aaron Trejo unexpectedly pleaded guilty to murder and feticide during a status hearing in St. Joseph County. Trejo told the court that fatally stabbed Breana Rouhselang, 17, outside her home in early December during a brief conversation.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Trejo said he knew he killed his girlfriend and later determined that their baby had also died.
Trejo was a football player at Mishawaka High School and Rouhselang was his football team’s student manager and a former cheerleader. Rouhselang was reportedly six months pregnant when Trejo killed her.
Hours after her family reported her missing, the teen’s body was discovered in a dumpster located a block away from her home. Authorities said Trejo put his girlfriend’s body in a plastic bag before throwing her phone and the murder weapon in a river.
“I took action…I took her life,” he told authorities.
According to charging documents which were filed shortly after the slayings, Trejo told investigators that he killed Rouhselang because she refused to get an abortion.
Trejo waived his right to appeal his conviction and sentence as part of a plea deal. The agreement also prevents prosecutors from filing additional criminal charges in this case. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for January.
