Alabama authorities are investigating a homicide after finding a young woman behind a high school in a suburban area outside of Birmingham.
AL.com reports that the victim, who may have been in her early 20s, was found close to an athletic complex by Mountain Brook High School in Mountain Brook, which lies around six miles south of Birmingham. Although police haven’t released the woman’s identity, law enforcement sources indicated she died from gunshot wounds.
The woman’s body was located at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Neighbors in the area reported hearing gunshots at around midnight.
On Monday morning, Mountain Brook Police Chief Ted Cook said that authorities believe they know who the victim was. However, they cannot make an announcement until confirmation by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. They also have a possible suspect in mind and the incident may have spurred from a domestic violence incident.
