Authorities in Connecticut are searching for a 1-year-old child who had gone missing from the home where her mother was found dead on Monday.
According to NBC Connecticut, relatives contacted police with concerns about an unidentified woman who lives in Ansonia. Police reported to the home, and found that woman dead, but the toddler girl, Venessa Morales, was not in the home.
Relatives reportedly told police that Venessa lives in the home, but the relationship between Venessa and the deceased woman is not yet known. Investigators have spoken to the girl’s father, who said he is in a relationship with Venessa’s mother.
The report indicates that Venessa’s father is not a suspect in her disappearance. It is not yet known how the woman died.
Because authorities do not have a vehicle or suspect description, the disappearance does not qualify for an AMBER Alert, so authorities have issued a Silver Alert for the missing girl. Investigators appear to be considering the possibility that the girl is on her own, and did not have a description of the clothing she might have been wearing.
“It’s extremely important based on the conditions that if anyone is outside that we get them inside but it’s more important in this case because we don’t know where she is at all. We don’t know if she’s outside or inside, if she’s safe with someone. We just want to locate her and make sure that she’s safe and we can get her back home to family,” Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said, according to the report.
Anyone with information is urged to call Ansonia Police Department at 203 735-1885.
