An Alabama woman found dead behind a suburban area high school on Sunday has been identified. Her husband, a former police officer, is behind bars in connection with her death.
AL.com reports that authorities identified the woman as 31-year-old Megan Montgomery. A passerby discovered Montgomery at the athletic complex behind Mountain Brook High School in Mountain Brook, at around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. Officials pronounced her dead at around 4:59 a.m.
On Monday, police detained the victim’s estranged husband. According to defense attorney Tommy Spina, the suspect has been identified as former Hoover Police Department officer, Jason McIntosh.
Police announced Sunday that the case is being treated as a homicide after determining Montgomery was fatally shot.
Court records indicate that McIntosh and Montgomery married in February 2018. Within a year they were separated. In February 2019, police responded to a domestic disturbance call and found Montgomery with a gunshot wound to her arm. McIntosh told authorities that they were wrestling over the gun during a domestic dispute, and the gun accidentally fired.
Montgomery was treated and released from UAB following the incident. McIntosh, who was an officer with the Hoover Police Department at the time, was placed on administrative leave while authorities investigated the incident. He later resigned.
Montgomery didn’t press charges against McIntosh, but in March 2019, she obtained a restraining order against him. She filed for divorce in May but the case was still pending when McIntosh allegedly killed her.
In May, the pair got into another domestic dispute. Police found Montgomery with scratches and bruising and subsequently charged McIntosh with third-degree domestic violence. He bonded out of jail the following day.
“The female party sustained injuries (scrapes and red marks) but refused medical attention. The husband, Jason Bragg McIntosh was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Violence 3rd degree,” the Hoover Police Department said in May, according to NBC 13.
McIntosh is currently being held at the Mountain Brook jail. His official charges have not been listed yet. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office is currently obtaining warrants.
Montgomery was the daughter of Johnny “Ironman” Montgomery, an eight-time contender in the World Championship IRONMAN triathlon. She was a founding member of the GBHS Young Professionals Board and spent time volunteering at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
