A New York police officer suffered minor injuries on Thursday afternoon when he bit into a razor blade hidden inside a sandwich he ordered moments earlier, according to reports.
The New York Post reported that the on-duty plainclothes officer got the tainted sandwich from Bon Appetit Specialty Food Store in Queens. NYPD is reportedly investigating how the razor blade got into the sandwich and if the officer was targeted.
The officer was reportedly hospitalized for a small cut in his mouth. A spokesperson told WNBC that a DNA sample recovered from the razor blade will undergo testing.
In a statement issued to the news station, management from the Bon Appetit Specialty Food Store said they will cooperate with the NYPD’s ongoing investigation.
“In our experience, the NYPD officers of the 100th and 101st precincts have been an exemplary example of professionalism and service to not only our business but to our local community in the Rockaways, Queens, and New York City at large. If given the opportunity, the management of Bon Appetit would like to personally apologize to the officer and the rest of the local law enforcement community.”
