Four members of the same family were shot to death in San Juan, Puerto Rico, shortly after returning home from a New Year’s Eve celebration.
According to ABC News, Dorothy Wickline, 40; her husband Edwin Ramos, 47; and their 9-year-old twin sons were fatally shot inside their home in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning. The couple’s 16-year-old son was also shot but survived, and is now hospitalized with serious injuries.
Puerto Rico Police Detective Carlos Nazario told reporters that authorities are still working to establish a motive. He said there may be a connection between the quadruple homicide and an alleged assassination attempt against an older son of the deceased couple, identified in multiple reports as Luis Ramos Wickline.
Wickline reportedly went to police on Monday to report an attempt on his life, and was then arrested on pending federal carjacking charges and state weapon and assault charges. According to ABC News, Nazario told reporters that Luis Ramos Wickline was in custody at the time of the killings.
Citing local news sources, the Daily Mail reports that another son had dropped his family members at home and then left to drop off his girlfriend. It does not appear that he was at the family home when his parents and brothers were shot.
