Police have arrested a third teen suspect in the stabbing murder of Barnard freshman Tessa Majors, who was killed in December in Morningside Park.
The New York Post reports that Luciano Lewis, 14, surrendered to police on Wednesday morning. Police had earlier questioned Lewis but released him without charges.
Lewis’s arrest is the third in connection to Majors’ murder on December 11, during what police have characterized as a botched robbery. The teen suspect will reportedly be charged as an adult and is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Zyairr Davis, 13, and 14-year-old Rashaun Weaver were arrested earlier this month and are facing multiple charges. According to the New York Post, Weaver is suspected of committing the fatal stabbing. Police sources reportedly said that DNA evidence found under Majors’ fingernails linked Weaver to the crime.
“What we can do is say that we are confident that we have the person in custody who stabbed her,” NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said last week.
Majors, who was originally Virginia, was 18 years old at the time of her murder.
