A 3-year-old boy in Tennessee is dead after his mother allegedly stabbed him.
KnoxNews.com reports that police were called to a home in Lenoir City early Wednesday morning after the grandmother of a boy identified as King Brown found him unresponsive with multiple injuries. While waiting for emergency responders, the grandmother reportedly administered CPR with the guidance of a 911 dispatcher.
During that time, the boy’s mother, Melanie Sue Brown. repeatedly stabbed herself in the neck and chest, according to the report. The 38-year-old woman survived the apparent suicide attempt and was given surgical treatment at a hospital. She is expected to be charged on Wednesday.
“Just a horrific scene,” police chief Don White told the news outlet.
“This is just not what you want to have to deal with in any community, let alone here. We’re a very low-crime city, we don’t have these things occur.”
Authorities have not yet commented on what may have driven the mother to kill her son.
