The Connecticut man believed to have killed his two young children before killing himself was arrested for domestic violence before his divorce from the children’s mother.
Yimi Moncada, 27, and his two children — 5-year-old Gessell Moncada and 4-year-old Jesus Moncada — were found dead in the detached garage of a vacant home in Norwalk Monday morning. According to the Hartford Courant, officers reported to the location after someone placed a 911 call that was disconnected.
Authorities have not yet released any details about the cause of death, but police are confident that Yimi Moncada killed his children before taking his own life.
According to the report, the Department of Children and Families confirmed that Mocanda was involved in an unspecified domestic violence incident in 2015, apparently with his ex-wife. The children were not involved Moncanda’s wife reportedly filed for divorce in 2016 and the divorce was finalized in 2017.
“The mother had obtained a restraining order against the father due to domestic violence and concerns were expressed for an infant in the home. Upon assessment, the children were viewed as safe and their needs were appropriately being met. Our involvement ended as it was reported to the Agency that father completed court ordered programming, the prior charges were dismissed and the restraining order had expired,” DCF Commissioner Vannessa Dorantes said in a statement obtained by the Hartford Courant.
“This is a horrible incident that makes us feel great anguish for the loss of these innocent children, for their grieving mother, and the community members who knew them.”
