A Pennsylvania man is dead after he allegedly claimed God told him it was OK to shoot his girlfriend, then kill himself, according to reports.
CBS Philly reports that 38-year-old Roderick Bliss IV shot his girlfriend in the back before turning the gun on himself inside a home off of North 17th Street in Wilson Borough. When police arrived at the scene, they found a semi-automatic pistol near Bliss.
Police located the female victim, 43, inside the home with a gunshot wound to her back. She was still alert when authorities arrived. She told them Bliss shot her. She added that during the previous days, Bliss started acting erratically after losing his job amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Shortly before the shooting, Bliss emerged from the basement in his home with a shotgun and said he ‘already talked to God and I have to do this,” according to his girlfriend.
The woman said she tried to escape by running off of the porch but Bliss fired four shots at her, striking her once in the back.
When Northampton County Coroner Zach Lysek arrived at the residence, he ruled Bliss’s death a suicide, according to 69 News.
The victim underwent surgery at a local hospital and is expected to survive.
