During welfare check, police find woman’s body in garage and toddler dead in bedroom: Report

A woman and a toddler were found dead at a home in Indiana, and police are investigating a possible double homicide.

According to the Courier and Press, police responded to a duplex in Evansville early Wednesday evening after a concerned relative had called 911. There, they found the body of a woman in the garage of the residence, with “obvious trauma” to her body and face, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding told the news outlet. Police also found a toddler dead in an upstairs bedroom.

Authorities have not identifed the woman and the toddler, but wedding told the news outlet that police presume the woman is the toddler’s mother.

Police reportedly obtained a search warrant and combed the property for evidence Wednesday night. Officers are also speaking to neighbors to determine if anyone witnessed a disturbance or unusual activity.

Wedding told the news outlet that police were not able to immediately determine what caused the woman’s injuries. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
