A Pennsylvania man was criminally charged after his missing girlfriend’s body was reportedly discovered in his apartment building on Monday.
KDKA reported that residents at a McKees Rocks apartment building informed police of a foul odor. An investigation led them to the second floor, where they reportedly discovered Kristy Jefferson’s badly decomposed body in a broken refrigerator.
Jefferson’s body was reportedly wrapped in a sheet. Her body was also described as being partially dismembered, according to The Pittsburgh Post Gazette,
WPXI reported that the refrigerator containing Jefferson’s body was located in a hallway 20 feet from Daryl Jones’ front door.
Jefferson, 38, was last seen on April 26, when she FaceTimed with relatives who ultimately requested a welfare check. Jones, 40, allegedly has a violent past — with neighbors telling KDKA that Jones and Jefferson regularly fought.
Officers who canvassed the apartment building also detected a foul odor emanating from the basement. There, they reportedly discovered bags of bedsheets that were covered in bodily fluids.
Police claimed they also discovered numerous items with Jefferson’s name on it inside and outside of Jones’ apartment.
Jones, who’s currently charged with abuse of a corpse, remains jailed without bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 14.
The medical examiner is in the process of determining Jefferson’s cause of death.
