The mother of a 3-year-old Michigan mother found stabbed to death on Wednesday has been charged with the boy’s murder, The Detroit News reported.
Atiya Nina Muhammed, 26, has been charged with first degree premeditated murder, felony murder, child abuse, and torture, according to court records. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said she will be arraigned on Sunday.
Inkster police said relatives found 3-year-old Zion Reid on Wednesday when they hadn’t heard from the mother in several days and went to the home to check on her, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said that Reid suffered multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma injuries. His body was found in a back bedroom.
Muhammed was not in the home when police arrived, around 4 p.m, but she was located and taken into custody less than two hours later.
Inkster is a small town about 20 miles west of Detroit in Wayne County.
