A 4-year-old Texas boy is dead following a shooting at a home where a group of people were gathered for a Memorial Day barbecue.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told KTXS-12 that the 4-year-old boy and a 1o-year-old child were handling a gun in a bedroom of a home in San Antonio while a barbecue was taking place when the younger child was shot. Authorities are not yet clear how the children obtained the gun and who fired the shot that killed the 4-year-old boy, who has not yet been identified.
Someone at the home reportedly tried to drive the boy to a hospital, but became stuck in traffic along the way because of an accident near S. Rigsby and Gevers. An ambulance at the scene of the traffic accident transported the boy to a nearby hospital, but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
It is not yet known if police are expected to charge anyone in the fatal shooting.
