Baltimore police found a pregnant woman and her 3-year-old daughter dead in a car just before noon Friday and later arrested the man believed to be the father of the unborn child for the crime.
Police said they arrested Devon Sample, 24, not long after finding the bodies of Shiand Miller, 23, and Shaniya Gilmore, who both apparently died of gunshot wounds.
Sample has been charged with two counts of first degree murder, police said.
“This is a tragic situation where family and friends are left suffering and mourning over the loss of loved ones,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said. “I want to commend the hard work of our dedicated Homicide detectives for quickly apprehending the suspect for this despicable act of violence. I can only pray that family and friends of the victims and our city can begin the healing process.”

Family members said Miller was eight months pregnant.
“It’s real hurtful because the baby girl, Shaniya, that’s my daughter’s heart — her granddaughter, she had her every weekend, so this is real hurtful,” the toddler’s great-grandfather told WBAL. “I can’t stop her from crying, you know, that was her reason for keeping on.”
Police have also asked that anyone who was in the area of the 200 block of Boswell Road in west Baltimore Thursday night at about 11 p.m. to please call (410) 396-2100.
