The family of a Kentucky woman who disappeared five years ago has been notified of the discovery of possible human remains near where the woman was last seen, WHAS11 reports.
Crystal Rogers, a 35-year-old mother of five, vanished from her home in Bardstown, Kentucky, on July 2, 2015. Her boyfriend, Brooks Houck, claimed innocence and said he had no clue what happened to her.
Detectives considered Houck, who lived with Rogers, a suspect, but he was never charged in connection with her disappearance, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
A little over a year after Rogers vanished, her father, Tommy Ballard, was found shot to death on his own property. A bullet hit Ballard in his chest while he was out hunting. Ballard never gave up trying to find his daughter.
Police said they learned of the remains on Thursday and asked the FBI’s Evidence Response Team to assist because of a “difficult to reach location.” The remains have been taken to the FBI’s Quantico, Virginia, lab for testing.
