California authorities continue to investigate the disappearance of six people who all vanished near the same area within the past five months.
News Channel 3 reports that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department indicated that all six people, who remain missing, disappeared after last seen close Idyllwild.
Roy Prifogle
Roy Prifogle disappeared on March 4 after possibly going on a hike in Pine Cove. Despite a large search effort and finding his backpack and car in separate areas, Prifogle has not been located. Daughter Kendra Johnson thinks Prifogle may have “put down his backpack and went back to get water and maybe he lost his footing.”
“He’s probably gone,” daughter Kendra Johnson told CBS 2. “But we still have hope.”
Lydia “Dia” Abrams
Lydia Abrams, 65, disappeared on June 7 from the Mountain Center/Garner Valley area. According to Valley News, Abrams’ car, keys purse, and phone were left at home.
“As of now, the only update we have is that an extensive search was conducted in the area over a three-day period without locating Dia Abrams,” Deanna Pecoraro, a spokesperson with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, said in June. “She is still in the system as a missing person. We do ask if anyone has any information or knows her whereabouts to please contact their local law enforcement.”
Melissa Lane
Melissa Lane was last seen in Pine Cove and supposedly headed to Idyllwild. However, she left her belongings, included her cellphone, at her boyfriend’s house. She was reported missing on June 15.
“They could be stealing people for the sex slave trade, or it could be a serial killer,” Lane’s mother, Kathy, told CBS 2.
Rosario Garcia
Rosario Garcia was last seen in Hemet on July 7. On July 9, authorities found her silver 2016 Nissan Altima abandoned off of Highway 74 near Pinyon Pines. Garcia may possibly suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
“There’s just no way,” Margarita Zavala, Garcia’s daughter, told CBS 2. “How could she get the car up there?”
Jade Kemerer
Jade Kemerer’s family last heard from her on July 22, after she checked out of the Bluebird Cottage Inn in Idyllwild with her son. Kemerer, 30, reportedly drove away in a Kia Optima without her son and took a flight back to Ohio, but no one has heard from her since.
“Jade is not always the most responsible person, but I will tell you she loves her son Henly, and I don’t think she would have left her son without telling someone that she was leaving,” former co-worker Gabbi Rose said.
Venessa Vlasek
On July 31, Venessa Vlasek was reported missing by an Ohio family member who had not heard from her since March.
The Sheriff’s department request anyone with information on any of the missing people to call 951-791-3400. Check back for updates.
