A New York man is behind bars after police say he raped a young girl in the backseat of his car on Monday.
NBC New York reports that authorities arrested 32-year-old Rafael Martinez after he pulled his car over during a 4-mile cab ride and sexually assaulted the girl, who was trying to get from Myrtle Avenue and Carlson Avenue in Brooklyn to her grandmother’s home to pick up a new bicycle
After the incident, Martinez allegedly dropped the girl off at her destination, close to Ralph Avenue and Fulton Street. GPS data reportedly tracked the spot where the suspect pulled his car over.
After the girl told her parents what happened, they took her to Woodhull Hospital. Police arrived at the hospital shortly after. On Tuesday, they arrested Martinez.
“We have enough evidence to corroborate her story. There’s both physical and electronic evidence,” a police source told New York Daily News. “You know what surprised me the most? He knew we were coming, and he waited. He stayed instead of getting on the next plane out.”
Martinez has been charged with rape, assault, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal sex act, and sexual abuse.
