A young girl is dead and an adult woman critically wounded in what appears to be a murder and attempted suicide in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told First Coast News that deputies responded to a 911 call from someone in the home and found the girl, who was under the age of 8, and woman with multiple stab wounds.
Both were taken to a hospital, where the child died from her injuries and the woman is in critical but stable condition.
News4Jax reported that deputies believe the woman stabbed the girl several times with a kitchen knife and then stabbed herself. They have not said how or if the two were related.
“We believe there is a relationship, but I can’t comment on that because I don’t have all of the details,” Sgt Adam Blinn told the Florida Times-Union. He also said investigators had not spoken to the woman,
The sheriff’s office said another child, under 10 years old, and three other adults were at the home at the time of the incident, News4Jax said. The other child was not hurt and is now in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
A detective told the station that he did not known of any prior domestic calls at the home.
