Maryland authorities say an 80-year-old woman was out for a morning walk when she was randomly attacked by a stranger.
Fox 6 reports that the incident happened on a walking trail in Columbia on September 9, off of Cradlerock Way. The suspect, identified at 20-year-old Traquan Malik Waller, allegedly sliced the victim’s neck at around 6:35 a.m.
Waller, who doesn’t have an address, doesn’t know the victim and had no known motive, police said. The victim made her way back to her senior living facility, bleeding from the neck. Another resident called 911.
The victim was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma but is expected to survive.
Investigators said that Waller said nothing to the woman and took nothing from her. Authorities detained him and took him to a hospital for unknown reasons. He’ll be taken to the Howard County Detention Center upon release from the hospital.
Fox 45 reports that police found clothes that matched Waller’s at the scene, along with a knife. He’s been charged with assault, attempted murder, and reckless endangerment.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to call (410) 313-STOP.
