Police have reportedly recovered the body of a child on Randall’s Island, near the location where a 5-year-old boy is believed to have fallen into the Harlem River on Saturday.
Citing police sources, the New York Post reports that investigators believe they have recovered the body of the missing 5-year-old boy, identified as Brendan Mitchell.
“It’s probably the 5-year-old,” a police spokesperson told the New York Post.
“It’s looking more and more like this is the kid.”
As CrimeOnline previously reported, the boy was last seen on the edge of the water in Harlem River Park late Saturday afternoon. Some reports indicated that the boy had been chasing after a soccer ball; other reports stated he was seen climbing a tree near the edge of the river. According to witness accounts cited in local reports, some of the boy’s family members realized he was in danger and went in the river after him.
The New York Post report does not disclose exactly where on Randall’s Island the boy was found.
CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is available.
