A pregnant woman was shot and killed outside a Paterson, New Jersey apartment complex Thursday afternoon, but medical personnel were able to safely deliver her baby.
Witnesses said the woman was outside in the parking lot when a red car pulled up and fired three shots at her, according to NorthJersey.com.
A young girl, said to be the woman’s daughter, was with her and witnessed the shooting, witnesses told CBS New York.
Sources told NorthJersey.com that the incident appeared to have been a domestic incident and that the woman may have had several other children.
“I recognized the lady,” one neighbor said of the victim. “I didn’t know her, but I had seen her walking with her kids. She seemed to be a dependable mother.”
Witnesses also told NorthJersey.com that the victim told people around her that she knew the man who pulled the trigger and that her mother recognized the name.
Police have not released any information about the victim or a possible suspect. Officers collected surveillance footage from the area, CBS New York said.
