An infant’s wailing prompted the discovery of a dead woman inside a New York City apartment, where authorities also found two children, AM New York reports.
Around 2:37 p.m. Saturday, police officers from the 102nd Precinct and emergency medical crews were dispatched to a residence in Queens after a neighbor called 911.
The neighbor reported hearing the cries of a baby from an apartment, according to the newspaper.
When police officers and medical technicians arrived, they found a 25-year-old female who appeared to be unresponsive and unconscious. The woman was later pronounced dead.
Crews also found two small children in the apartment: a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old. The children were described as alert and were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center to be observed, according to AM New York.
Authorities are investigating the woman’s death as a possible suicide, police sources told the news organization.
Photos published by AM New York show a female police officer carrying a small child at the scene. The child was wearing a blue hoodie and had a pacifier in their mouth.
A second photograph that the newspaper posted shows an ambulance and police car in front of the residence where the woman’s body was located.
Police officers who responded could also be seen at a door to the apartment building, according to a third photo published by the newspaper.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The apartment is located in southwestern Queens in the South Richmond Hill neighborhood.
