Police discovered the body of a 4-year-old girl inside a home in California where two adults had overdosed, and evidence at the scene indicates she had been dead for some time while the adults continued to take drugs.
According to NBC Los Angeles, police responded to a report of a possible medical emergency at a home in Beaumont on Wednesday, after a witness said that a man was having a seizure. Responding officers found two adults who had overdosed on drugs, and the decomposing body of a 4-year-old girl.
The man is reportedly alive and in critical condition, but the woman was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to an emergency room, KABC reports.
Although police have not yet determined exactly when and how the girl died, police said in a statement that she appeared to have been dead for up to two days, and “appeared severely malnourished” with “numerous bruises throughout her body.”
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the child victim or the two adults in the home, and their relationship to each other remains unclear.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Beaumont police at 951-769-8500.
