Louisiana authorities are searching for five juveniles wanted in connection with the shooting of a 5-year-old child.
CBS 10 reports that the incident happened Monday at a home in Ville Platte off of E. Cotton Street. Five teens, according to police, beat up a homeowner in his front yard after demanding money.
One of the teens reportedly had a metal pipe and hit the victim repeatedly in the head. When the homeowner retreated back, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and began shooting. A bullet struck the child in the shoulder.
The child was airlifted and taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Lafayette to undergo surgery.
ABC 3 reports that the suspects are likely 15 years old and older, according to the homeowner. The homeowner added that he has had issues with the same group for a long time. Other neighbors have also had problems with the group.
Chief Lartigue with Ville Platte PD described the suspect as five black males, according to Fox 15. Additional details on the suspects’ descriptions are not yet available.
