Authorities in California have launched a manhunt for six inmates who escaped from the Merced County Downtown Jail this weekend.
According to Fox News, jail security became aware that the inmates had escaped at around midnight Sunday. The sheriff’s office said in a statement posted to Facebook that the inmates had somehow gained access to the roof, and then climbed down the side of a building using homemade rope.
The inmates, all males in their twenties, should be considered armed and dangerous, authorities said. One was in custody on a murder charge, and others are accused of violent crimes.

Anyone who sees any of the escaped inmates is cautioned not to approach them and call 911 immediately.
