Authorities in South Carolina have discovered a body during the search for a missing pregnant woman who disappeared late last week.
As WNCN reports, a body was found in a suitcase Monday amid the search for missing Brittany Simone Smith, 28, who was reported missing on Thursday. Smith, who is reportedly visibly pregnant, was last seen in Wendell, which is in Wake County.
According to the report, the body was found near the Neuse River east of Raleigh, also in Wake County.
Authorities have not released details about the discovery of the body or confirmed whether it is the missing woman.
“If this is, in fact, that young lady we’ve been looking for all weekend long … Someone is responsible for that,” Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker told the news station.
“It’s safe to say that this is no accident,” Baker said, adding that police had identified “people of interest.” According to the news station, deputies were seen taking people from the scene for questioning.
