A Florida police officer was arrested Sunday for allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to a man who was masquerading as a 15-year-old girl.
According to WFTX, Lee Bassett pretended to be a 15-year-old girl while talking online with Charlotte County Sheriff Deputy Martin Allen, 40. Bassett reportedly contacted authorities once he realized the person he was corresponding with was a cop.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell confirmed Allen was chatting with a male citizen who he thought was a girl named “Mandy,” the news outlet reported.
According to Your Sun, police said Allen solicited nude pictures from the 15-year-old girl.
“Allen’s conversation became sexual in nature, from sleeping nude together to taking showers or giving massages. Allen went as far as asking if the 15-year-old girl would move in with him at his residence,” Prummell said in a statement.
Bassett said during a Facebook Live broadcast that he corresponded with Allen for 10 months. Bassett also said he has been conducting sting operations for three years but this is the first time it has resulted in an arrest.
Bassett and his girlfriend reportedly manage Southwest Florida Exposure, a Facebook group dedicated to exposing suspected child predators.
Allen was reportedly arrested after arriving at an agreed-upon location. Prummell said there is no indication Allen had other victims.
Allen was charged with lewd and lascivious conduct. He remains jailed without bond. An arraignment is scheduled for March 29.
