Authorities in Texas are investigating the death of a 1-year-old girl who was found unresponsive in her family’s above-ground pool.
According to the Houston Chronicle, a family in Daisetta reported the child missing at about 2:30 p.m.Monday. While Liberty County Sheriff’s deputies were on the way to the home, the family reportedly found the toddler girl in the swimming pool. Emergency responders performed CPR, but the child could not be saved.
The parents reportedly told deputies that they had put the child down for a nap earlier that day, and that she was missing from her bed when they went to check on her two hours later. Initially, the parents believed “the child had just walked away,” the sheriff’s office told the Houston Chronicle.
The child’s cause of death is pending a medical examination.
