The boyfriend of a missing, pregnant Texas woman whose skeletal remains were found two weeks ago in Louisiana has been charged with tampering with evidence by Texas authorities, the Beaumont Police Department said.
Jonathan Paul Menard, 35, arrested on February 11 in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, on a probation violation and was transferred to Texas on Thursday, according to police, who said that additional charges are pending.
Menard’s girlfriend, Kayla Nicole Rice, was found dead on the day Menard was arrested. She was last seen at the end of November and was six months pregnant at the time, her family said.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, authorities found Rice’s vehicle soon after she was reported missing in December and said the vehicle had been “physically altered,” although they did not explain what that meant.
Rice, 33, was living in Beaumont at the time she disappeared. Her remains were found in a shallow grave near Vinton, Louisiana, in Calcasieu Parish, about 40 miles from Beaumont.
Beaumont police said they are investigating the death with Calcasieu Parish deputies and the FBI. They asked anyone with any information about Rice’s death and disappearance to contact Beaumont PD at 409 832 1234 or Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409 833 TIPS.
