The husband of a missing California woman who vanished three months ago allegedly devised a murder-for-hire plot targeting his wife’s suspected boyfriend.
A source told Fox News that they frequently heard Larry Millette discuss paying $20,000 to kill Maya Millette’s alleged beau. Larry Millette allegedly started constructing the plot last summer, months before Maya Millette’s disappearance, and had talked about it days before she vanished.
The source also said Larry Millette “seemed pretty serious” about the murder-for-hire plot. A family member told Fox News that they heard him threaten Maya Millette’s alleged boyfriend last summer, saying, “I want to do something to that fool.”
According to KFMB, Maya Millette, 39, vanished in Chula Vista on January 7 after getting into an argument with her husband and video chatting with friends. Reports indicated that Maya Millette had scheduled an appointment with a divorce attorney the same day she disappeared.
“If anything happened to me, it would be Larry,” Maya Millette said during a camping trip days before she vanished, according to a relative who spoke to Fox News.
Maya Millette’s identification card, credit card, and phone also remain unaccounted for. Her credit card has not been used since her disappearance, and her phone goes straight to voicemail.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Larry Millette was said to be helping with the search at first but has since stopped cooperating with police, retained a lawyer, and stopped attending vigils.
Maya’s sister, Maricris Drouaillet, said that Maya had scheduled an appointment to meet with a divorce attorney on the same day she disappeared.
“The date, the scheduled date to meet with the divorce lawyer, that was done Thursday afternoon,” Maricris said. “According to the divorce lawyer, she wanted to have the birthday celebration first, her daughter’s birthday celebration was on Sunday, so she wanted to wait.
No charges have been filed in connection with Maya Millette’s disappearance, but law enforcement officials said it is not a cold case. Check back for updates.
