An 18-year-old student is in custody after a man described as her “dating partner” was stabbed several times, reportedly requiring lifesaving surgery.
As WAFB reports, Southeastern Louisiana University police responded to a disturbance call at Louisiana Hall on Saturday night to find a student from a nearby university stabbed multiple times. Draven Upchurch, a Louisiana State Student, had reportedly been visiting 18-year-old Elizabeth Grace Johnson at her dorm when she allegedly stabbed him.
A police report obtained by the news station shows that Upchurch was taken into surgery and was listed in critical condition this weekend.
Upchruch’s mother reportedly said in Facebook posts that her son had extensive organ damage and had a small section of both his long and colon removed during surgery. While she said Draven’s condition is stable, he is expected to undergo at least one additional surgery.
According to WAFB, Johnson was arrested and charged with aggravated battery. She has since bonded out of jail and has been placed on interim suspension from Southeastern Louisiana University.
Authorities have not yet commented on a possible motive for the attack.
