The defense will continue to call witnesses on Day 14 of the Derek Chauvin murder trial.
During Wednesday’s court proceedings, former Maryland chief medical examiner Dr. David Fowler testified that he believes drugs in George Floyd’s system contributed to his death. Floyd died during an arrest in May 2020 after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for several minutes, even after Floyd lost consciousness.
On Thursday morning, Chauvin said that he would invoke his Fifth Amendment right and will not take the stand.
