One person is dead and four others injured after police say a gunman opened fire into a group with mostly children.
The incident happened outside of The Belt at Atlantic apartments in Richmond, off of Midlothian Turnpike, on Sunday at around 6:0 p.m.Police Chief Gerald Smith said that
“It’s just a heinous act that baffles the mind as to why anyone would do this in a quad full of children just out enjoying themselves,” Chief Smith said.
The victims include an infant, two teens, and two adult females. Most survived the attack, aside from one woman, who passed away from her injuries at an area hospital. Smith added that the infant is in serious condition, ABC 7 reports.
One of the hardest things to say is one was a 3-month-old at the time they were shot,” said Chief Smith. “The 3-month-old is in serious condition at this time.”
“Someone knows who did this act. They know. There’s too many people out there, too many eyes, too many connections for people who live here not to know who did this,” Smith said.
Authorities are currently reviewing security footage but at this time, no arrests have been made and no motive is yet known, CBS Richmond reports.
