Police in Florida are investigating a shooting that left a 4-year-old child dead and a 5-year-old sibling in critical condition.
The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office said Clewiston police requested assistance just before 3 p.m. for “a reported shooting involving two young children.”
Details were not made available immediately, but both children were rushed to a hospital, where the young child was pronounced dead. The 5-year-old was then airlifted to a nearby trauma center.
“We are offering our sincerest condolences to the family of these young children,” Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden said. “We are determined to provide every resource available to us to conduct this investigation to determine how this tragedy could have occurred”.
WINK reported that its reporters were told the shooting was accidental, but that has not been confirmed.
