As the search continues for a missing Nevada toddler, family members are trying to dispel rumors surrounding the boy’s disappearance.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, in a statement issued to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Las Vegas police said they were alerted to a child who vanished from the 3600 block of Paradise Road, near East Twain Avenue, early Wednesday morning.
The child, identified as Amari Nicholson, 2, was last seen at 6 a.m., although according to Metro dispatch logs, he was reported kidnapped at 3 p.m.
Amari’s mother, Tayler Nicholson, told Fox 5 that the boy was taken from the Emerald Suites, where her boyfriend, Terell Rhodes, was staying with the child. Rhodes said someone knocked on their room door and said she was the sister of Amari’s father and was there to take the boy with her.
Nicholson said she was in Colorado at the time, but she admitted she told Rhodes that “someone would be stopping by” after the couple got into an argument. Nicholson never said who would be stopping by or why, but Rhodes said he still had the message “in his head” when the woman picked up Amari.
Rhodes said he tried to call Nicholson to confirm, but she was still sleeping and didn’t answer the call.
One of Amari’s aunts told CBS Las Vegas that the person who supposedly took Amari was not one of his biological aunts.
“This person that took Amari was not his aunt,” Amari’s aunt, Yolanda Everett, said. “It was not someone who is his biological aunt, so if someone came to you and told you that, they are wrong. Please help me to find this person.”
Amari’s biological father and his family flew to the area to help search for the boy. So far, there are no new leads, the family said, and the child’s mother is reportedly not returning their calls.
“We all just want to work together with Taylor to make sure we can bring him home and stop the confusion,” Amari’s other aunt, D’Errica Perryman, said.
A $30,000 reward for information that leads to the boy’s whereabouts is being offered. There has been no AMBER Alert set up so far.
