Police in a Minneapolis suburb are looking for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 6-year-old boy in a porta potty at a park in a residential area.
Brooklyn Park Deputy Chief Mark Bruley said the incident took place at about 9 p.m. Wednesday in Willowstone Park. He said a family was holding a party in the park, and as they were cleaning up, they couldn’t locate the young boy, KMSP reported. A family member found him coming out of a porta potty with an unknown man.
Bruley said the relative confronted the man, who said that they boy had gotten stuck in the porta potty and he let him out. After the man left, however, the boy told relatives how he had been abused.
“This is a tragic event both as professional law enforcement and a father, it’s horrifying,” said Bruley. “We’re asking our community to come together to help us solve that, help us figure out who was in this park and who was victimizing this child.”
Police described the suspect as between 20 and 25 years old with a thin mustache and a short fade hair cut with longer hair on top. He was wearing a black T-shirt and white tennis shoes. Investigators are also testing DNA they recovered from the scene.
Bruley said neighbors reported they had seen the suspect at the park before, frequently sitting on a bench alone, looking at his phone, KTSP reported.
KMSP said police held a community meeting Thursday night to discuss the case.
