Two children were shot, one of them fatally, in at least five shootings in New York City on Saturday evening, the New York Post reports.
In the fatal shooting, 10-year-old Justin Wallace was killed while he and his 29-year-old uncle were inside a house in Queens around 9:30 p.m., according to WABC-TV.
Wallace was hit by gunfire in the stomach and rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to The New York Times.
The uncle was shot in the shoulder and is in stable condition, WABC-TV reports.
Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that the drive-by shooting came after an argument.
A witness told the newspaper that he and his family were having a cookout when shots rang out.
“They saw a guy pull up in a car and start arguing. They said someone went into the house. After that I guess they were arguing,” the resident, who goes by the name of Jacob, told the New York Post.
Another neighbor said they heard approximately six gunshots.
“When I came out he was already in the ambulance. You could see inside the ambulance they were working on him trying to pump,” the neighbor, who declined to give their name, told the newspaper.
Investigators are searching for a black sports-utility vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made.
In another incident, two adults were shot: an 18-year-old was struck in the calf and a 20-year-old was hit in the foot. Both victims were hospitalized and are expected to recover.Later in the evening, two vendors arguing began firing guns and a bullet hit a bystander’s shoulder. The 55-year-old victim was brought to a hospital and is likely to recover.
A 27-year-old man was also hospitalized after being shot in his right ankle. He was in stable condition as of Saturday.
