Kentucky mom abandons toddler and steals van: Police

A Kentucky woman left her 4-year-old son behind a Lexington social services organization and took off in one of the facility’s vans.

Jahaira Rivera had been charged with abandonment of a minor and theft by unlawful taking of a vehicle, LEX18 reported.

The Lexington Police Department said the incident took place at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Someone had left the keys in the van, police said, and Rivera got in and took off, leaving her son behind.

Police said the boy’s age and the proximity to busy Versailles Road left the boy in danger.

LEX18 did not say when Rivera was arrested or what happened to her son.
