A 3-year-old boy has died in New Jersey following a horrific incident in which he was attacked by dogs after falling out of a window at his Elizabeth home.
According to WABC, the unidentified child fell from a window in the rear of his home, into a fenced-off area where the family kept their dogs. It is unclear how many dogs were involved in the fatal attack.
A neighbor told the news station that she saw the boy’s mother desperately try to pull the dogs off her son before he was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m., about an hour after he fell.
“I didn’t sleep all night,” the neighbor, Maria Rocha, said. “My heart is broken. I didn’t sleep all night.”
More neighbors reportedly told the news station that the dogs were known to be aggressive, and that the area where they boy fell was typically littered with debris and feces.
“I just hope that he didn’t suffer, you know what I mean?” Rocha said. “I hope he didn’t suffer, that it was quick.”
Authorities are investigating the boy’s death, and it is unclear if they are expected to file any charges.
