Authorities in France are investigating the grisly murder of a 13-year-old boy and police reportedly believe he is the same child who disappeared from a foster care home.
Citing French news sources, the New York Post reports that police had been looking for a missing boy when they discovered the dismembered body parts of a juvenile male at a home in Tarascon. The boy’s head was reportedly found in a bucket.
It is not immediately clear why investigators went to the residence which was rented by a man who had a psychiatric disorder, public prosecutor Laurent Gumbau told Agence France-Presse.
According to the report, Gumbau has not confirmed that the deceased child is the same boy who went missing — identified only as Romain — on a walk from his foster care to his mother’s home. But The Sun reports that Romain’s mother was heard screaming at the scene, “He killed my son, he killed my baby.”
The man who lived at the residence where the body parts were found reportedly escaped by climbing on roofs of nearby buildings, but police eventually caught up to him, and fatally shot him.
The man, who was not formally named as a suspect, had a violent criminal history, according to the New York Post report.
This is a developing story.
