A pregnant Georgia woman and her young child are dead after a man fleeing from police crashed into them in Clayton County.
The incident first began at the intersection of Ga. 138 and West Fayetteville Road at around 1:30 a.m., according to police. AJC reports that officers spotted a man asleep in a Ford F-150 and knocked on his window to wake him up.
“They knocked on the window attempting to wake the male,” Clayton County police spokeswoman Sgt. Julia Isaac said. “The male woke in a confused state and sped off down Highway 138.”
Shortly after, police received another call involving the F-150 driver and another vehicle. The suspect apparently crashed into a minivan with a pregnant woman and her small child inside. Police arrived to find the F-150 driver dead at the scene.
The mother and her child were found in the other vehicle, in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle, a male, was also listed in critical condition. The woman, her unborn baby, and the child subsequently passed away from their injuries.
A dog was inside the vehicle with the victims but it’s unclear whether it was hurt.
The names of the parties involved are being withheld at this time so that authorities can notify their families.
