Arrest Made in Movie Theater Shooting That Left College Student Dead & TikTok Star on Life Support

California authorities have made an arrest following a Monday night shooting at a Corona movie theater that left one teen dead and another on life support.

Corona police arrested 20-year-old Joseph Jimenez on Tuesday night and charged him with murder, robbery, and attempted murder. Witness statements led authorities to the suspect.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, the incident happened at around 11:45 p.m. Monday at the Regal Edwards Corona Crossings theater in Corona. According to police, the victims were watching “The Forever Purge,” the latest installment in a series of movies that centers around the government allowing people to commit crimes.

Corona police spokesperson, Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis, said it’s unclear whether the shootings had anything to do with the theme of the movie.

Grand Canyon University student, Rylee Goodrich, 18, died at the scene, while 19-year-old TikTok star, Anthony Barajas, was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. He’s now on life support.

Investigators said the pair attended the movie together. Employees found the victims while cleaning up the theater after the movie ended.

ABC 7 reports that police carried out a search warrant Tuesday night at Jimenez’s home, off of Envoy in El Cerrito. The home is located about two miles north of the Regal Edwards cinema.

“During the search of the residence, a firearm and additional evidence related to the crime scene were discovered. The firearm matched the caliber of the weapon used in the murder,” police said.

Kouroubacalis added that the attack was not gang-related and appears to have been an unprovoked incident.

“We do not have a motive for this heinous, unprovoked crime,” Kouroubacalis said.

Jimenez is behind bars on $2 million bail.
