A 16-year-old central Florida boy has been charged with beating another boy and leaving him naked and unconscious in a Lake County woods.
The victim’s parents called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office shortly before 9 p.m. Monday after their son failed to return from a bike ride.
Deputies found the boy early Tuesday after he’d regained consciousness and walked to a nearby road, the Associated Press said. In addition to being naked, his eyes were swollen shut and his mouth was bleeding.
According to the 16-year-old’s arrest report, the victim told detectives the other boy choked him until he passed out, and he woke up in the woods while the boy was punching him. The boy kept “asking him why he wouldn’t die,” according to the affidavit.
The victim told police where he thought his attacker lived, and deputies went to the home. According to the arrest report, when the boy saw them, he started walking toward the woods, telling them that’s where the victim’s belongings were. In a later interview, he told investigators that he started talking to the boy when he saw him riding his bike and attacked him when he allegedly said something about his sister.
The boy said he intended to kill him, first choking him and then dragging him into the woods and hitting and kicking him as the victim “begged him to stop.”
The 16-year-old has been charged with attempted murder, kidnapping with bodily harm, and robbery, the AP said, and his case has been taken over by the Department of Juvenile Justice.
The names of the suspect and victim are not being released because of their ages.
