Three people were killed in an early Sunday morning shooting at a Texas sports bar that appeared to be operating after legal hours.
A man and a woman were pronounced dead on the scene, News4 San Antonio reported, while another woman and two more men were taken to a hospital in critical condition. One of those people died at the hospital.
San Antonio police said the suspect in the parking lot shooting is still at large, according to KSAT.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told reporters that the incident began shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday with an argument between two people inside the Boom Boom Sports Bar on the city’s east side. The altercation spilled outside, the chief said, and one of the people involved went to his vehicle and retrieved a rifle.
“He started shooting in the air on his way back to the bar,” McManus said. “He encountered many of the people in the parking lot. At the end of that encounter, five people were shot.”
McManus said all the people who were shot were in the 20s or 30s and appeared to be people who “happened to be in the parking lot (and) got caught up in this.”
The chief also said that “it appears the bar was operating after hours,” News4 reported. Bars in San Antonio are required to stop serving alcohol at 2 a.m.
