A man and a boy believed to be father and son were found dead early Sunday morning in a Belle Isle, Florida, home.
As WESH reports, police responded to the residence early Sunday morning where they found the bodies of an adult male and a young boy. A neighbor told the news station that responding officers broke down a door in what initially appeared to be a rescue effort.
“Police kicked down the door and went in the back, they brought rescue and all that but the stretchers came back empty so we knew somebody had passed away,” Jay Hester told WESH. “My heart’s broken.”
Hester told the news station that he covered a front window of the home with plywood, because the bloody scene was visible to passerby.
WESH reports that reporters spoke to a man believed to be the boy’s grandfather, who arrived to the scene. He was too distraught to be interviewed on camera, but said the decedents were father and son.
It is unclear how the man and child died.
Police have not publicly identified the victims or identified any suspects. The report suggests investigators may be treating the deaths as a murder-suicide, though authorities have not yet made any public comments.
