Authorities in South Carolina are investigating the deaths of twin infants who were found dead in a vehicle parked at a preschool Wednesday evening.
As WLTX reports, Richland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Sunshine House Early Learning Academy on Wilson Blvd. in Columbia, where they found infant twin boys unresponsive in a vehicle parked outside the preschool. The babies, who have not been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances of the infants’ death are not yet clear, including whether or not the incident was connected to the preschool or its employees.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office is expected to hold press conference Thursday to share more information about the tragedy.
Concerned community members reportedly gathered at the scene to offer prayers.
“I started praying for the family, praying for God to give them peace, for the teachers that those children may be in their classes. A lot of people are hurting right now,” Bonita Belton, whose children attended another Sunshine House school location, told the news outlet . “No parent plans to bury their children. We plan for our children to bury us. This is just really tough.”
