Authorities in Ohio say they believe they have recovered the remains of a Wadsworth man who vanished after going out to a club last October.
Iron Cannon, 27, reportedly told his nephew he was on his way home, but he never made it, according to WEWS.
Initially investigating as a missing person case, detectives later determined that Cannon had been shot and killed at an apartment on the north end of town and that an intricate cover-up involved destruction of and tampering with evidence, including Cannon’s remains.
The remains were recovered Sunday from Lake Milton by Wadsworth Police, the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department, and the Ohio Division of Natural Resources. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy and will make the official identification, but Medina County Prosecutor Forest Thompson said that “all parties are confident” the remains belong to Cannon, the Akron Beacon Journal said.
In May, a Medina County grand jury indicted seven suspects related to Cannon’s death. They were arrested and are awaiting trial. They are:
- Justin D. Hornbeck, 28: murder with firearm specification, tampering with evidence, having weapons under disability, obstructing justice, gross abuse of a corpse, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt
- Tyrone L. Render, 27: tampering with evidence with a firearm specification, obstructing justice, having weapons under disability, gross abuse of a corpse, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
- Autumn M. Knight, 27: tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, gross abuse of a corpse, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
- Marcus Y. Clark, 55: tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, gross abuse of a corpse, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
- Christopher J. Williams, 32: tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, gross abuse of a corpse, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
- Samantha P. McCune, 27: obstructing justice
- Antonio W. Moore: obstructing justice
Wadsworth Police Chief Dan Chafin said in May that investigators believe Hornbeck shot Cannon at an apartment rented by Render, who had since moved, the Akron Beacon Journal said. Chafin said the apartment was Cannon’s last known location, where he was supposedly hanging out with friends.
