An Ohio toddler died Sunday after she was attacked by at least one dog agitated by an altercation between two other people in the house.
The Akron Police Department said officers were called to the home at about 10:30 a.m. and found a 16-month-old with critical injuries, News 5 Cleveland reported.
The little girl was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said that their investigation had so far revealed that a 20-year-old man and woman were involved in an altercation and their fighting riled up the two pitbulls in the house. The child was attacked in the home’s living room by at least one of the dogs, who were taken into custody by animal control workers.
Police said the man and woman involved in the incident were not the toddler’s parents.
The victim has not been named pending positive identification and notifications. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy.
